The Ring was started in spring 1995 as a project to help me learn about the internet while in graduate school. I don't exactly know how the site was originally found by the outside world, but through word-of-mouth throw-minded people worldwide have formed an on-line community. Over 25,000 messages get read through The Ring each month, by approximately 2000 individuals. In the past year over 200 new members have registered to post messages. In some months over 1500 messages get posted. The Ring is, and always will be, a free resource for throwers, coaches, and fans of throwing worldwide. The Ring runs using disk space
on my internet
provider. The interactive part of The Ring (the message board) used to run on
a server housed in the School of Education at George Fox University,
who graciously tolerated
our traffic on their network for 6+ years. This arrangement was a huge advantage for
The Ring because it gave us absolute control and responsibility over
the
message board, without using a "free" commercial site with strings
attached
and no control.
Since 2004 the ring has run independently on my internet provider, and has its own domain, "www.effortlessthrow.org" You can support the The Ring in three easy ways 1. Tell your friends. The more throwers and coaches that share on The Ring the better for everyone. 2. Let VS Athletics, MF Athletic Company and SORINEX know you appreciate them. VS, MF Athletic, and SORINEX believe in The Ring and actively pursue a role supporting it. They pay a flat fee for displaying their banners. It would help alot if you dropped them a line saying how much you appreciate The Ring and the fact that they help pay its bills. The email addresses to send notes to are: Matt Ellis, MF Athletic matt.ellis@mfathletic.com Brian Springer, VS Athletics bspringer@springcoathletics.com Bert Sorin, SORINEX bert@sorinex.com 3. Buy books, especially textbooks, through the Amazon.com link on The Ring. Any purchase made results a small "referral fee" for The Ring. You pay the same price you would by shopping these sites without going through The Ring. This pays for the internet space Thanks again for making The Ring!
